Dinner & A Movie--Advocate’s Theater meets once a quarter at Independence Now’s Silver Spring Office. Movies will include audio description and closed captioning.

Fried Green Tomatoes: Evelyn Couch is having trouble in her marriage, and no one seems to take her seriously. While in a nursing home visiting relatives, she meets Ninny Threadgoode, an outgoing old woman, who tells her the story of Idgie Threadgoode, a young woman in 1920's Alabama. Through Idgie's inspiring life, Evelyn learns to be more assertive and builds a lasting friendship of her own with Ninny.

Brian Moe, Director of Homeland Security for Prince George’s Co. , Marty Flemion, Deputy City Administrator and Emergency Operations Center Director for Laurel, and the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department will discuss life-saving topics such as developing a family emergency preparedness plan and kit, staying safe during natural disasters, preventing disasters in your home, and resources for help in an emergency.

Attention fathers and their children! We will be viewing and discussing I AM SAM, a movie about a father with an intellectual disability fights for custody of his 7-year-old daughter, and in the process teaches his cold-hearted lawyer the value of love and family. Join Independence Now as we celebrate Father’s Day and the importance of being a good parent.
